Friday Favorites!

Another week as flown by and I honestly don't know what to make of it. I was pretty busy and finished another midterm, which relieved (a little) stress. Only one more midterm to go until finals! Anyways, this week's Friday Favorites is a shorter than previous weeks, because I didn't have the time to surf the web and Bloglovin'. None the less, here are some of my favorites from this week!

Taylor Swift Winter Street Style Inspired Outfits! | Part II

Last month I wrote a fashion post featuring outfits inspired by Taylor Swift (here) and after seeing a few more of her recent outfits, I had to write another Taylor inspired post. Taylor Swift has continued to gain attention from fans and non-fans alike, and I don't see her fame dying down anytime soon in 2015. The three looks featured in this post are all great outfit-picks for the winter, whether it's for class or for a night out with friends. The three ensembles below are inspired by the three outfits that Taylor wore above. Scroll down to see the inspired outfits!

The first outfit is a great way to mix textures and colors into while still looking classic. To recreate the outfit, start off by tucking a turtleneck sweater into a red velvet skater skirt. To add some warmth to the ensemble, add a black peacoat and black tights. For accessories, wear a black bowler hat and a green satchel. Finish the look with a pair of black oxford heels!

This next outfit is much more edgy than Taylor's more typical preppy style. While this outfit is edgier, it is still very wearable and chic for those who want to try more edgy trends. Start off by pairing together a black tee and black leggings or jeans. To add some edge to the outfit, wear a black moto jacket. As for accessories, finish the look with a pair of black heeled lace-up booties and a leather backpack.

This last outfit is the most wearable look for everyday, whether it's for class or a day out with friends. To recreate this look, start off with a blue and green plaid shirt. Add a pair of plum pants or jeans tucked into a brown combat boots. Next, add a blue and green plaid scarf to compliment the shirt and a beige peacoat to add warmth. To make the outfit more winter appropriate, wear a pair of grey fingerless gloves, similar to the pair Taylor was wearing in the photo. Finish the look with a black shoulder bag.

Friday Favorites!

Wow, did this week fly by! Maybe it was the long weekend, maybe it's the amazing weather here in the Northwest. Either way, I'm pretty excited for the weekend. I don't have anything planned other than school work, but that's always the best part, right? Nothing says a lively weekend than catching up on TV shows on the weekends! #TVismysociallife

Anyways, here are some of my favorites from this week!

Lougewear: The Essentials

Over the past year, I have become someone who wears lougewear probably more than I should. I love fashion trends and more classic pieces, but I sometimes have a hard time resisting a pair of comfortable pants and a loose sweater. Lougewear is great for those lazy weekends when leaving the couch is not part of the schedule. In this post, I have put together some of my loungewear essentials, from pants to tops to accessories to put together the perfect comfortable outfits!

Joggers. Joggers are a great alternative to leggings and yoga pants for those who want to look a little more put together. The joggers shown above are the perfect middle between a comfortable, loose sweatpants and slim leggings.

Half Zip Sweater. Sweatshirts with a half zipper in the front are less restricting version of a typical sweatshirt. The half zip-up in the front also makes the sweatshirt more breathable and adds a cute, laid back detail to the sweater.

Beanie. For those morning when you roll out of bed and your hair just doesn't look like you want it to, beanies are a fantastic way to cover-up bed head hair. They are also great way to cover your head for those days when your second (or third day) hair is not looking very fresh. Not to mention that are adorable, warm, and come in many colors!

Loose tee. A basic loose tee, whether short-sleeved or long-sleeved, is a must-have for layering year round. They are soft and come in a wide range of colors, allowing you avoid looking dull when you want brighten an outfit while still being comfortable.

Headband. Headbands are another great hair accessory to wear when you are just lounging around your room or running errands. They help keep your hair out of your hair, especially during windier days. Headbands also come in a variety of colors and styles and are a great way to add detail to plain outfit.

Moccasins. Nothing is more comfortable than feeling like you are walking on clouds. Moccasins may not be the most fashionable shoe, but they are great shoe choice if you are looking for something easy to slip-on and they go with almost every casual outfit.

Yoga Pants. Yoga pants are probably the kings of loungewear. If you don't yet own a pair of yoga pants, you may want to reconsider. They are incredibly comfortable and aren't as tight as most leggings, so you typically don't have to worry about having to wear a longer shirt. They are also flattering on all figures and come in a wide range of prices.

Friday Favorites | Valentine's Day Edition

You've heard it before. Valentine's day, you love it or you don't. While myself, and many others, may not have a date this Valentine's day, I am personally in between the "love it or don't." I love that Valentine's day is dedicated to showing someone close how much you care. I don't like the pressure behind the day and believe that Valentine's day is much too overhyped and overdone. Regardless, even if I don't have a date, I still like taking some inspiration from heart-shaped everything and the various shades or red and pink of the day!

Get the Look: Taylor Swift's 2015 Grammys Outfit + Makeup!

Many fashion statements and trends took place at the Grammys this year, one the celebrities being Taylor Swift. When I saw Taylor Swift's look, I knew that I had to immediately do a recreation the look, since it is not only gorgeous and mermaid-like, but also a great outfit for the spring! While Taylor Swift's exact look may not be wearable for most of us, taking inspiration from her look and create a colorful and flirty spring outfit.

Outfit

Dress / Earrings / Heels / Turquoise Rings / Silver Rings
To recreate a more wearable version of Taylor's Swift outfit, start off with a teal dress that has a slight sheen for a more dimensional look, similar to the dress Taylor was wearing. Next, you can not forget to add the bright pink wedge sandals. Taylor complimented her dress with turquoise accessories, so add a pair statement turquoise earrings and several turquoise and silver rings.

Makeup

Taylor's face makeup was quite simple while also focusing on highlighting and subtle contouring. To recreate her face makeup, start off with a base, such as a BB Cream or foundation. Next, contour lighting using a Bronzer by applying the product on the hollows of your cheeks, temples, and down the jawline. Add a bit of color to the look by applying a little bit of Pink Blush to the apples of your checks. Finish the look by applying a Highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones and down the bridge of your nose.

Start the eye look by applying a Light Shimmery Eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes and all over your lid. Next, apply a Plum Eyeshadow in your crease and outer corner, blending the color well to prevent any harsh lines. Apply and blend a Navy Eyeshadow to your lower lash line. As you get the our corner of your eye, use a pencil or eyeliner brush to create a wing with the navy eyeshadow. Slightly blend the wing out, since there was no defined wing in her look.

To thicken the lash line, press a Black Eyeliner into your upper lash line, making sure that you are not create a thick line. Next add a White Eyeliner to your waterline. Finish the look with a Black Mascara on your upper and lower lashes!

Valentine's Day Outfit Ideas!

When you are bombarded in stores with heart-shaped boxes and flowers all shades of pink, you know it's that time of the year: Valentine's Day. While I believe that Valentine's day and consumerism are two peas in a pod, I do think that it's a great time to spend time with a loved one. Whether you have a special someone to share the date or having just as much fun with some friends, picking an outfit for that special day can be challenging! Here are a few ideas for any occasion on Valentine's Day.

Pop of Pink

This first outfit is perfect for either a date night or a fun "singles" night with friends. The white lace detailed dress is flattering without being too revealing. Compliment the dress with white and gold accessories and a simple bag. As for the pop of color, bright pink looks chic against an all white outfit. Since the bright pink is also focused on the shoes rather than the dress, the outfit is perfect for those who don't like making a statement, but still want to have a bit of color in the ensemble.

Date Night: The Classics

Top / Necklace / Skirt / Earrings / Heels
Red is a Valentine's day classic and nothing looks more classic against red than a neutral color, such as white and black. Keeping the red statement on one piece of the outfit, such as the skirt, and then adding neutral pieces to the look keeps the outfit simple and elegant. Concentrating white on the top, while wearing black heels further prevents clashing in the outfit and keeps the focus on the skirt.

Fun Night In

Last but not least is probably the outfit I will be wearing this Valentine's day! Whether you are staying in with your friends or special someone for movie night, or winding down at home with your friends after a night outfit, this outfit is cute, comfortable look that is easy to put together. Pair together a cute graphic tee with a pair of pajama shorts or pants. I've always to do a pampering night-in on a Valentine's day with friends, which includes nail polish, face masks, and if you're staying in by yourself, a nice bath melt. Oh, and of course chocolate!

Friday Favorites!

It's once again already Friday (where did the week go?) and I'm here for another Friday Favorites! The past few weeks have been pretty long, but for some reason, despite being busy, this week flew by. I'm honestly so glad for the weekend though (who isn't?), even though it will be pretty packed, since I have quite a bit of things to do and my parents are coming up to visit me (yay!). All that aside, let's get into this week's Friday Favorites!

Year of the Contour

Items shown above: NYX Wonder StickMake Up For Ever Sculpting KitClinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour and HighlightAnastasia Beverly Hills Contour KitMarc Jacobs Beauty #Instamarc Light Filtering Contour Powder

It seems as if companies are releasing contour products left and right for the spring. While contour has been a popular makeup trick for a while, I have noticed contouring gaining a lot of attention in the beauty world for the past few months. Whether it's because of the Kardashions or just another large beauty trend, contouring is one of the most transforming beauty trends and is the perfect way to add some definition or enhance certain features.

In the past, contouring has mostly been done by applying a bronzer or illuminator to the low and high points of your face. Contour colors, however, are different in that a contour shade creates a muted shadow, while a bronzer creates a more bronzed look. Highlighting shades that come in contour palettes are also less shimmery and are slightly more yellow toned than illuminators. This creates a more natural "lifted" look to you face rather than a glow.

Above is a chart highlighting (pun not intended) the basics to contouring. Contouring essentially has two "rules": Contour on the low points of your face and Highlight on the high points of your face. While this may seem simple, contouring does take practice. If you are just starting to contour, begin practicing with a little bit of the product. This lighter contour is also great for an everyday or for a more natural look. After some practice, if you want a more defined look for a night out, you can slowly build up the contour. The same goes with highlighting. Just be sure to blend!
