Liquid Lipstick: In or Out?

The liquid lipstick is the new 2-in-1 product has been starting to dominate the lip sections in both drugstores and high-end beauty stores. Liquid lipsticks are essentially highly pigmented lipglosses, so they are often as opaque as a standard lipstick. Some of the reasons for why liquid lipsticks have been getting a lot of hype is not only because of their high pigmentation, but also because they are not drying and have a glossy finish: two elements not typically found in lipstick.

Liquid lipsticks have actually been around around for a couple years, such as the Rimmel Apocalips lip color and the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar. Recently, however, liquid lipsticks have become a growing trend, with many brands also releasing their own version of the lipgloss, such as Too Faced Melted Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, and Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick Lips. Other brands that have liquid lipsticks also include Revlon, Hourglass, and Shiseido.

I personally think that the liquid lipstick trend is a great trend for those who have been looking for a lipstick and lipgloss in one product. I don't own any liquid lipsticks, however, I starting to consider trying them, because of their awesome pigmentation and easy applicators. I also think that liquid lipsticks would be great during the holiday season when you want to rock a glossy red lip!

Fall Fashion Essentials!

Where did summer go? It feels as if the Fourth of July was just yesterday! Regardless, fall is officially here and one of the many things that gets me excited for fall is the fashion! Fall brings back comfy, laid back outfits, whether worn in rain or shine. This post will feature my 5 fall essentials that I think will be very useful pieces for the upcoming season. Each piece can be worn to fit your style or your level of comfort. Whether for school or a night out, all the pieces featured in this post are all basic pieces while still being a little trendy.

Sam Edelman, H&M, BP.
Nothing says casual like a simple plaid print! Flannels and plaid prints are usually associated with the fall and cooler months, however, this season, lighter plaid tops have been seen in almost every store. Lighter plaid tops are a great transition piece between summer and fall and are easy to layer. Plaid tops also come in a variety of colors and are perfect for a simple school outfit when paired with a pair of skinny jeans and booties.

Lulu'sStoosh, Lulu's
Moto jackets are currently one of the more edgier trends, however, don't let the edge scare you away! There are wide range of moto jackets in stores right now and there is one to fit any style! If you prefer items with less edge, try a tweed moto jacket, like the one shown in the center. The light color and tweed material makes the jacket more feminine and classic while still incorporating the trend. If you like more edgier looks, go for a simple black leather moto jacket. Tan leather moto jackets also add edge, while adding a bit of sophistication.

American Eagle Outfitters, J.Crew, J.Crew
Everyone should own a pair of skinny jeans for the fall. Not only are they casual, but they go with almost any top and color. Dark wash skinny jeans are a great basic jean that looks chic while still being comfortable. Fall is also a great time to pull out the darker colors, like black and grey. Black skinny jeans and grey skinny jeans also can go with nearly every color, but can add a little bit of edge or sophistication to the outfit, depending on how it is styled.

BP., H&M, TOMS, BP., Lulu's, BP.
Heeled booties was a gift sent to women of all heights, especially those on the shorter side! Taller boots have been in style for several years and it can sometimes feel like you are drowning in your boots. Booties are a great way to show off some more leg while also adding some height, which are great for those on the shorter side, including myself! Booties also come in a variety of styles, from wedges to fringe.

NB Handbags, Forever 21, Rebecca Minkoff, BP.
Quilted bags automatically add sophistication and class to any outfit (well, almost any outfit). Rebecca Minkoff released her quilted crossbody earlier this year, which seemed to cause other companies to follow close in their footsteps. Quilted handbags are a great essential for a night out, but can also be incorporated during the day, such as with a tote like the one shown by BP.

Back-to-School Outfits!

Putting together outfits on a school morning can sometimes seem like chore, however, putting together outfits that look polished don't require as much effort as it may seem. One of my biggest tips for those who are wanting to look put-together in the morning without all the effort is to prepare or plan out your outfit the night before. This saves time and may even give you a few extra minutes in the bed since you have already planned out what to wear! The outfits in this post feature many basic items that can be put together to create a comfortable, but polished look!

This first out goes back to the basics while still involving many prints and textures. Start off the outfit with a patterned long shirt and a pair of black leggings. Make sure the shirt is long enough in the back to cover, well, your butt, because that look isn't that cute. Next add a textured white scarf and a pair of heeled brown booties, both in which will intently make the outfit look more put together.

Floral is not just for the spring! When florals are paired with darker colors, it can make a perfect fall outfit both school and going out. This outfit is a little more on the dressier side, but the chunky sweater makes it wearable for class. First pair a black knit sweater with a dark floral skirt. Next, add a pair of black booties to compliment the sweater. As for accessories, wear a pair of gold studs and a long gold pendant necklace. Gold is a great color to wear in the fall, since it is on the warmer side like many fall colors.

This next outfit is a great outfit for those cooler fall days and involves classic colors and patterns! First start off with a gray sweater and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. Next, add a plaid scarf for some detail and a navy quilted vest for some warmth (I absolutely love this H&M scarf and J. Crew vest!). Finish the look off with a pair of nude flats or riding boots!

My 3 Back-To-School Makeup Must Haves!

It's that time of the year again when the days are getting shorter, which means for many, it's time to go back to school. During the days when you don't get your seven hours of sleep, sometimes a little wake-me-up using makeup can be helpful. Here are the three products that I think will be useful throughout the school year!

My first must-have for the school year is the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder. Through all the fun and stress during the long school days, skin can tend to get oily. Applying a mattifying powder is a quick way to prevent oil buildup and shine throughout the day. I love the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in particular because it has a very natural finish and I only need to reapply it once throughout the day.

School usually means more homework and less sleep, which doesn't have a great effect on the under eye area. The Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer is a great concealer to quickly brighten the eye area and instantly makes you look more awake. It can also be used to cover pimples during the days when you are extra stressed.

Lastly, another great way to look more awake and fresh in the morning is to apply a tinted lip balm, such as the Revlon Lip Butter in "Juicy Papaya". This Revlon Lip Butter is great for the school year, because it's a "my-lips-but-better" color that is natural looking and moisturizing while adding some color. Lip products can tend to be a hassle in the morning, but since this color is so natural, you can apply it quickly without a mirror.

High-End Booties for Less!

Nothing screams fall like a good pair of booties! As stylish and comfortable as booties are, they can often be expensive and cost more than you are wanting and willing to spend. This post will feature booties that are more affordable versions than the high-end booties that are often seen in high-end stores. Keep in mind that although the more affordable versions are close replicas, the quality may not be as high as the high-end booties. If you are looking for some that won't last you for years and years, here are some great, more affordable options!

Opened-toed booties are one of the newest trends this season in terms of shoe wear. Although it may not be practical for all parts of the country during the fall, it is a great, stylist choice for days when it it's not raining or too cold outside. These Target Mossimo 'Kacie' Booties are almost identical to the Steve Madden 'Nonstp' Bootie, each having a similar style and a similar heel.

Strappy black booties are great for those who want a boot that is more edgy while still being very wearable. The strappy Target Mossimo 'Hartley' Booties are a very close match the Miz Mooz 'Devlynn' Bootie, with both shoes featuring three straps and gold buckles with cutout shafts. The only differences between the boots are that the Target boots have a darker heel and the Miz Mooz are a little more rugged looking. These, however, are very minor differences in the appearance between the two booties.

For those looking for a classic, simple boot without the steep price, these H&M Ankle Booties are a great choice and are comparable to the much pricer Cole Haan 'Draven' Booties. Both shoes feature an elastic side panel with a chunky high heel. The biggest difference between the two booties is the price (the H&M booties are over $250 less than the designer shoes and the H&M pair are now on sale for an even lower price!).

For those who liked the lace-up Dr. Marten boot trend, these leather Chelsea booties are an updated, but similar version. Theses H&M Chelsea Booties and the Dr. Martens 'Flora' Booties are very comparable, with the Target boots being almost $100 less than the Dr. Martens. Since they are more simple with elastic detailing, these booties are versatile while still being a little edgy.

Leopard and Stripes

Stripes and Leopard Print, an unexpected but surprisingly classic fashion combination. Stripes are a staple wardrobe that can (usually) never be over worn, while leopard prints are a growing trend this season, but tend to scare people away due to its bold pattern. These two patterns are on opposite sides of the fashion spectrun, but balance each other out to make a fun yet classic combination. Since leopard prints are bold, I tend to keep them with accessories while having the actual clothing pieces incorporate stripes. This helps balance the outfit without the outfit being too much.

Casual and Laid Back
One of the simplest ways of combining stripes and leopard print is by also having a neutral item, such as jeans in the outfit. This outfit shown above is perfect for a day out and incorporates leopard print through a few accessories without being overdone and tacky. First pair of a striped tee with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. As for the leopard print, wear a pair of leopard printed flats with a leopard printed tote bag. Finish the look off with some simple, pearl stud earrings.

Fall Night Out
This next outfit is more on the dressier side and would be work well for a day to night look. The outfit incorporates not only stripes and leopard print, but also other textures such as leather. Start off the outfit with a simple striped dress. Add a leopard printed belt for a small pop of color and a pair of black earrings to compliment the belt. To make this outfit more appropriate for the fall, add a taupe leather jacket and a pair of taupe booties. These taupe and neutral pieces will help lighten the outfit and won't class with the mixing prints in the outfit.

High Waisted Skirts and Heels
This last outfit is another dressy way to combine stripes and leopard print. This outfit subtly adds the thin stripes with the statement shoe, making it classic outfit that is perfect for a night out during the fall. Pair together a striped navy and white top with a black high-waisted skirt. Add a pair of leopard printed heels as a statement piece. Lastly, finish the outfit off with a black crossbody bag and a black necklace. By pairing black pieces with the striped top and leopard printed heels, the outfit is kept classic without any of the pieces clashing.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Get the Look: NYFW Diane Von Furstenberg Runway Show Makeup Look!

New York Fashion Week was last week and after looking at some of the runway designs, I didn't want anything more than to attend some of the shows! Although most of us aren't able to attend the events, it's actually easy to recreate some of the makeup looks from the runways! This look in particular is based off the look from the Diane Von Furstenberg Runway show. It features a simple gray-brown smokey eye is natural face makeup and a nude lip, making it great for not only a night look for next spring, but also for the fall!

  • BB Cream: Start the makeup with a BB cream for light coverage and a dewy finish.
  • Bronzer: Lightly sweep the bronzer in the hollows of your cheekbones, on your temples, and down the jawline for a little bit of definition.
  • Light Pink Blush: For a little bit of color, apply the blush on the apples of your cheeks, sweeping and blending it up to the sides of your face.
  • Illuminater: This is a key part of the look. For the dewy finish, apply to the tops of your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose and to your cupids bow and lightly blend.

  • Light Brown Eyeshadow: Apply the light brown eyeshadow lightly in the crease as a transition color.
  • Dark Brown-Gray Eyeshadow: First apply this eyeshadow lightly all over the lid then to the crease and outer corner using a fluffy crease brush, blending the color well. Blend the eyeshadow out a little past the outer corner of the eye. Next, using a crease or pencil brush, apply more eyeshadow to the upper lash line and lower lash line and blend slightly.
  • Shimmery Light Beige Eyeshadow: Apply a little to the inner corners to brighten the eye look.

  • Glitter Gold Liner: Apply this eyeliner to the waterline and also apply a little lightly on the upper lash line. Next, go over the eyeliner that is on the upper lash line with a little bit of the dark brown gray eyeshadow.
  • Black Mascara: Finish the eye look by applying mascara to your upper and lower lashes!

  • Nude Pink Lipstick: Since the model had a simple lip look with just a lipstick, apply the lip color to finish off the look!

My Back-To-School Fashion Must Haves!

Although I can't say that I'm entirely excited for summer to be coming to close or that the school year is already here, one thing that gets me excited about the fall is the fall fashion. Although I love summer fashion, it's always nice to have a little bit of change and transition. Fall fashion and style includes many of trends that you may see in the summer, but with some new tones, textures, and lengths. Here is a list of items that I think are fall must haves and are currently on my wishlist.

One of my first must haves and a great transition piece between summer and fall is a Light Sweater. Light sweaters are very versatile piece that can be worn with skirts when it's warmer, or with a pair of jeans and boots during the cooler months. Another versatile must-have is a Chunky Sweater, especially for those who like to be comfortable but also fashionable during the fall and school year. If you are looking for a piece that is a little more structured and loved the army jacket trend, a Moto Style Jacket is the new jacket trend that is great for the day and night. This jacket from Nordstrom is a great jacket during the cooler nights that adds a bit of edge without being too edgy.

Another great piece that transitions well between the summer and fall is a Sleeved Skater Dress. The wine color shown above looks great with a sunkissed glow, but also blends with all the colors in the fall. If you want a piece that's more casual, Dark Wash Skinny Jeans are a must for the fall, whether you don't own a pair or own maybe one too many. Not only do they go with any colored top, but also help slim your figure and elongate you legs.

As for accessories, even though florals are known as a spring and summer fabric, a Floral Scarf that involves fall colors such as brown and beige is useful accessory to have. It can dress up any casual sweater and immediately make you look more put together.

One of my favorite parts of fall fashion is that it becomes cool enough to pull out the boots from the back of our closet. Heeled Booties became popular last year, however, this trend has definitely not faded since and I don't see it fading any time soon! Another great shoe for the fall is Nude Flats, which is yet another transition piece between summer and fall. Nude flats are great for class, since they are comfortable and casual, but can also be dressed up with a nice dress and accessories.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Korea Mini Haul!

Asian skincare and makeup products have a fairly good reputation in the beauty world, so while in Korea, of course I had to go shopping for skincare or makeup products. As you could tell, I didn't go crazy in terms of shopping in Korea, even though I was tempted too. Many of the popular Korean brands are fairly affordable, so it took a lot for me to refrain from buying a blush in every shade.

For skincare, I went to The Face Shop, a popular and affordable skincare brand and store that focuses on incorporating nature into their products. I have been looking for a good moisturizer and eye cream, so I decided to pick up The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Lotion and The Face Shop Mango Seed Silk Moisturising Eye Cream. The lotion is a very nice bottle that would break if dropped and most exciting, the eye cream has a pump!

My mom and I also bought some face masks, and kind of went crazy. We ended buying more than 20 face masks, mainly because they are cheaper than the ones in the U.S., were on sale, and were going to be given as gifts for friends at home. Some of the The Face Shop Real Nature Mask Sheets we bought included Pomegranate, Mung Bean, Honey, Blueberry, and Kelp.

As for makeup, I was on the hunt for a good blush and decided to stop by the Innisfree store and buy the Innisfree Blush in the color #4, which is a slightly bright coral-pink color. Although it was (surprisingly) the only makeup product that I purchased in Korea, I'm excited to try it out before summer officially ends! I also received some samples of the Innisfree White Tone Up Lotion, which I'm excited to try!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Travels in South Korea: Part 2

If you didn't check out my previous post (here), it mentioned that I had visited South Korea with my mom for a little over a week. During the later part of our trip, we visited Busan to visit some family members. Busan is a city on the coast in the south part of Korea. The buildings that you see in the photos above are not business buildings, but actually really tall apartments, more than 70 floors high (who would ever want to live on the 70th floor?). We also visited the bridge in Busan at night, which not only lights up, but uses lights to create images on the bridge. It was pretty elaborate and awesome!

We also stayed a house in the countryside for a weekend with our whole family. It was in the valley and surrounded by these beautiful large hills and mountains. The only downside was that I was stung by these massive mosquitoes multiple times. While in the countryside, we also visited a Buddhist temple which featured a huge Buddha statue and many beautifully painted buildings.

At the end of our trip, we went back to Ansan and Seoul. During our last night in Korea, some of our family members took us out for Galbi, which is essentially delicious Korean short ribs. It was a great way to end our trip to Korea!
